My name is Tony Carroll and in May 2023, I took up the post of Chaplain of the Costa del Sol West Chaplaincy.

I was born in Liverpool in 1965 and following a degree in Biochemistry and Physiology and a year working in a lay Christian community in Liverpool, I joined the Roman Catholic religious order known as the Jesuits in 1987.

My training in the Jesuits involved the academic study of philosophy and theology, pastoral placements and a rigorous training in the life of prayer and contemplation. I was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1999.

Following my ordination, I was sent to Germany to do doctoral studies and began teaching philosophy and theology at Heythrop College, University of London in 2004. In 2007-08, I spent a year in Mexico and Central America in which I worked in Mexico, Columbia and Guatemala.

Returning to Heythrop to teach, I continued to work at the University and to do pastoral work in parishes and in Holloway Women's prison in London.

I joined the Church of England in 2013, was married in 2015 and served my curacy as a priest in the Church of England in the parish of St Mary and St Eanswythe with St Saviour in Folkestone, Kent.

On the closure of Heythrop College in 2018, I took a new post first as Dean of Pastoral Studies at the College of the Resurrection in West Yorkshire and then as Dean of Systematic Theology.

As well as working as a Chaplain in the Costa del Sol West, I continue my writing work and am currently working on a History of Philosophy for Bloomsbury Publishers.
